Jean-Claude Guimberteau

Dr Jean-Claude Guimberteau is a French plastic surgeon and hand surgeon who has spent four decades studying the workings of the human body. He is the co-founder of the Institut Aquitain de la Main and past-President of the French Society for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Jean-Claude Guimberteau has conducted research into the architecture and spatial organization of living matter and has developed a larger concept of anatomical structure. He is known for his work on the fascial system and the use of intratissular endoscopy to reveal the architecture and spatial organization of the living human body. His most famous film, “Strolling Under the Skin” from 2005, shows for the first time the most minute structures of the human body in a way that is both educational and artistic. Subsequently he has created several films where he use this innovative technique of video-endoscopy for the study of the human body, which has contributed significantly to our understanding of human biology
He has also authored several books, including “Architecture of Human Living Fascia”. Jean-Claude Guimberteau has also developed a new technique for transferring vascularized retrograde tendon flexor transfers onto the cubital pedicle to get around the problem of reconstructing flexor tendons.
Jean-Claude Guimberteau at Swedish Fascia Convention 2025
Jean-Claude Guimberteau is part of the international faculty for Swedish Fascia Convention 2025 in Uppsala. The convention brings together researchers, clinicians, movement teachers and educators across the fascia field for three days of plenary talks, panels and applied workshops focused on the living body and human fascia as a continuous communicating tissue.
The full programme runs from 13 to 15 June 2025 at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress and is built around four threads: foundational fascia science, clinical practice, movement and embodied learning, and the integration of fascia into healthcare and education. Each speaker is selected for original work that connects directly to one of these threads.
